Shop Longrow For independent shop’s eclectic choices

Campbeltown’s longest street has something for all with more than a dozen independent traders offering virtually anything. Many other small towns in the UK have seen their nonchain retailers vanish and the streets become deserts or full of charity shops but not Campbeltown. Longrow has charity shops but Kintyre Recycling for instance feeds into a local charity and not a behemouth selling items for a national charity. However its independent stores will not survive and thrive without the support of Kintyre shoppers. For foodies a recent, much welcome addition is Food for Thought restaurant the town’s only dedicated Scottish restaurant that is not part of a hotel. Other food choices include Amelia’s Bistro and the Kilbrannan Bar, Lingerie, Tattoos and shoes are expertly catered for by Raspberry Pink, Studio 26 and The Kintyre Shoe Company respectively. Possibly the biggest attraction for Kintyre tourists is Springbank and it is probably the longest operating business on the Longrow approaching its 200th anniversary in 2023. The Hardware Store is head and shoulders above most and there few items that Kenny Craig cannot obtain which is equally true at the Computer Services Shop. To furnish a home a good start and finish can be found at the Wallpaper Shop and why not buy a sofa, at Newgrove, to recline on when all that Longrow shopping is finished.

Kintyre Recycling Reuse Furniture Shop

Kintyre Recycling is running a pilot project to display and promote the sale of affordable second hand furniture. This is furniture that otherwise would have gone to landfill and is still in good condition and of good quality. Longrow’s best kept secret! The Fish Shop

The Fish Shop is the window of our Smoke House and New units and with Helen and Carol at the helm, it certainly is a friendly and well run shop. Inside you will find an array of fresh fish, much of which is sourced lovcally - from Archie McAllister’s delicious scallops, Tommy Finn’s fabulous haddock to Jimmy and David Anderson’s, hard to beat prawns. As well as the fresh fish there are many smoked delights; hot roast and cold smoked salmon, smoked haddock, mussels, kippers, scallops, Rob’s Gigha halibut and our range of smoked cheeses- Inverloch supplies it.. we smoke it! Many will also have noticed and indeed sampled our growing Deli range; fish cakes, pate, Kintyre eggs, pakora, soups, quiche, chutneys and jams. “The Best Cafe to have lunch in Campbeltown” (Trip Advisor review) “We had a day outing to Campbeltown ( The West Coast of Scotland peninsula) and stopped for lunch at Amelia’s cafe. We were please to find the very good cafe with variety of breakfast and lunch menu. We ordered vegetarian menu for our lunch and also hot drinks( coffee latte and green tea). The foods and the drinks are very nice and we enjoyed them. Its very reasonable price too. Next time We will come again to your cafe when we visit Campbeltown again. Fantastic New Restaurant (Trip advisor Review) “What a great find. My family and I were staying on the Carskiey estate for a week, self catering and thought we would treat ourselves on the last night of our holiday to dinner out in Campbeltown. After checking reviews on trip advisor we decided to go to ‘Food for Thought’ on Longrow, near the centre of town because we realised that the restaurant had only been open for a few months but had already picked up some rave reviews. The menu is modern Scottish, making use of local produce. Service is attentive, well mannered and genuine and the restaurant feels modern and comfortable. The star of the show is most definitely the food. I had a starter of smoked salmon ravioli with capers and a white wine veloute, a main course of smoked pork belly with seared scallops and finished with a creme brulee. Every course was accomplished. The ravioli showed great technical ability and subtlety from the chef and the belly of pork was smoked to perfection. The scallops that accompanied the pork were also cooked beautifully ...... what a combination! This is proper food.
