Rotary scales back sale
AN AGEING membership has been cited as one reason for the Rotary Club of Campbeltown cancelling its next sale of the century.
A Rotary spokesperson said: ‘Because of illness and bereavement among members, and also because of an ageing membership, the last sale at the end of September this year proved difficult.
‘It could not have taken place without the very generous help received from non-Rotarian friends’
The spokesperson added: ‘We have 43 members in the club. With two in their 90s, several in their 80s and several more in their 70s.
‘The youngest is Stephen McSporran, a lawyer at C D Mactaggarts.
‘The trouble is difficulty in attending lunch-time meetings.
‘We have tried monthly evening meetings, but older members don’t like driving in the dark.’
