Oban Saints 5 Campbeltown Pupils 3

CAMPBELTOWN Pupils Youth 2005s lost their first league game of the season to an impressive Saints side in a close-fought affair in Oban.

The tie proved to be a thrilling game and an excellent advert for Argyll youth football.

The youngsters from Kintyre started the game stronger and took the lead through Calum McAllister. The youngest player on the pitch, who is still to turn 11, thundered a great right-footed shot high into the Oban net after 10 minutes.

The Pupils made it 2-0 five minutes later when Lorne Paterson pounced on a corner from Scott Graham to score his 10th goal of the season.

With the Pupils pushing for their third they were caught by a counter attack when Kyle Cooper outpacing the defence to make it 2-1.

Cooper was to continue to prove to be a thorn in the side of the Pupils all afternoon.

The big strong centre forward scored his second and third to make it 3-2 to Oban.

In between, the Pupils created their own chances and were unlucky to go in at half time 3-2 down.

Oban made it 4-2 with 16 minutes to go, before the Pupils made it 4-3 with the goal of the game - another corner from Graham was met by Kyle Paterson who bulleted home a cracking header.

With the Pupils chasing the equaliser, and nearly getting it from chances from Shields, Ellis and Phillips, Oban made it 5-3 to take all three points.

This Sunday the 2005s are on their travels again as they play away to Summerston.

Kick off is 12.30pm at John Paul Academy, Summerston, Glasgow.
