A KINTYRE crime writer’s latest collection provides more clues about his primary character’s past. One Last Dram Before

Midnight, by multi-million selling author, Denzil Meyrick, is the complete collected DCI Daley short stories and novellas.

The seven short stories include two new unpublished adventures and allows readers to discover how DCI Daley and his sidekick DS Scott first met on the mean streets of Glasgow.

In addition, three pages of notes at the back of the book give credit to some of the reallife Campbeltown characters who helped or influenced the stories.

In particular these include: Jamie MacLean of the Dalintober Beach Regeneration Fund, photographer Fraser McNair and Eddie Mitchell,

who prompted an idea which gestated into Dalintober Moon.

He mentions Andrew Robertson’s influence on fishing tale: Empty

Nets and Promises, and recommends authors: Freddie Gillies and Angus Martin for their works on the same subject.

Away from conventional paperbacks Denzil has recorded much success recently with his audio books.

The Campbeltown educated author told the Courier: ‘The Last Witness was recently the number one selling audio book in the UK which was a bit of a coup. ‘Whisky in Small Glasses

has just sold 10,000 copies in a month in the United States and Asia and America has introduced a new range of the DCI Daley audiobooks. I have also been beseiged by enquiries from readers about my health, which I am pleased to say is much better than earlier in the year.

‘The sixth DCI Daley novel, The Relentless Tide will be published next summer.’
