Redman should ‘stick to day job’

-

Sir,

Once again we have to suffer the tirade against the Scottish government by Alastair Redman in his latest contribution: ‘Long wait for NHS cancer treatment’.

If Alastair Redman would widen his research, he would discover that the NHS south of the border, which is overseen by his party, is in a lot worse state than in Scotland.

Having discussed the state of NHS England with two doctors who have recently worked there – one in GP practice and the other in casualty – they confirmed what we already knew, that NHS England is in a near state of collapse.

Redman’s assertion that a patient in the Western Isles had to wait 275 days for cancer treatment is rather dubious.

My own sister, who sadly died last year form an inoperative cancer, had the best treatment and care that was available in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

Earlier this year, my brother-in-law, who was suffering with bowel cancer, had swift and excellent treatment in Oban Hospital with unbeatable aftercare.

Perhaps Councillor Redman should concentrate on his ‘day job,’ i.e. holding Argyll and Bute Council to account, which was why many people around these parts supported him, even some who did not agree with him politically.

But sadly, his obsession and vendetta against the Scottish government and the SNP in particular will do him no favours in any future political career he may aspire to.

S MacArthur Islay.
