Ellis hat-trick secures Pupils Youth victory

-

PUPILS Youth player Calum Ellis scored his the fifth hat-trick in 10 games, helping the Campbeltown side beat a sticky Broomhill SC side last Sunday.

Playing at Glasgow club Drumoyne, in Govan, the youngsters got off to a flying start when Owen Reid swung in an excellent corner which met Ellis’s head making it 1-0.

With Broomhill fielding a number of changes from the side defeated earlier in the season in Campbeltown, they enjoyed their share of the opening exchanges but it was the visitors who made it 2-0.

Darting run

A darting run from Ellis found his cross to the far post met by Ryan Harding, who knocked the ball home.

Ellis added another two goals before the break, the fifth time in 10 games the young Pupils forward has scored a hat-trick or more in the league this season.

There were no further goals in the second half.

Broomhill, to their credit, put in a good performance in the second 35 with the Ardshiel Hotel-sponsored Pupils 2005s making a number of changes in positions, allowing the whole squad to play.

Clean sheet

Young Finlay Kerr, in goal for the Pupils, made a couple of fine saves to ensure his side kept a clean sheet and returned to Kintyre with all three points.

The Pupils Youth 2005s have a free weekend this week and will return to league action on Sunday December 17 when they travel to play Dumbarton Riverside in their final game of the year.

It has been a busy year for the 2005s and one they can look back on proudly, with a number of impressive displays at festivals playing seven-a-sides before their transition to 11-a-sides and entering the DFDL where they have adapted well and now sit at the top of the table.
