Supermarket shoppers support Bonnie Babies and scout group
BONNIE Babies and the 16th Argyll (1st Campbeltown) Scout Group were two of the Kintyre groups to benefit in the latest round of the Co-op’s local community funding.
Representatives from both groups were invited to the supermarket on Saturday, where store manager Colin Middleton, team manager Donna Graham and team leader Denise MacIndeor presented them each with a cheque for almost £4,000.
There was an extra special little visitor from Bonnie Babies, which received £3,953.21, two-weekold Rosie McAulay.
Rosie’s grandparents, John and Debbie Lamont, who founded the charity which makes clothes and blankets for premature babies, were also at the presentation, along with Rosie’s parents, Clare Lamont and Ruaridh McAulay and volunteers Mary and Peter Todd.
Mary and Peter had a table in the Co-op foyer on the day, selling raffle tickets for the charity’s Christmas raffle, which has all cash prizes. The draw will take place on December 15 and tickets are for sale at the Bonnie Babies office and various shops and businesses around Campbeltown.
Receive
Scout leaders Alistair and Lindsay Kenny brought along some members of the 16th Argyll (1st Campbeltown) Scout Group to receive their cheque for £3,791.99.
The group hopes to spend the money on new equipment to provide an improved Scouting experience for its 70 members and for various other excursions including camping trips.
After the presentation, everyone tucked into a buffet, courtesy of the Co-op, which included a special cake made by Campbeltown Grammar School 6th year student, Emma Johnstone.
The money was raised through the Coop’s local community fund, which donates one per cent of the money spent by members on supermarket products to three local causes, chosen by members.
The other recipient in this round of funding was Campbeltown and District Juvenile Football Association, featured in last week’s Courier.
