Prize-winning Pirie is winter show champion

KINTYRE Agricultur­al Society (KAS) held its winter show on Saturday at Ballygregg­an Farm by kind permission of the Millar family.

Overall champion in the dairy section and winner of the County Garage cup was A&J Pirie, Machrihani­sh, while the McKerral cup for champion Clydesdale was awarded to D&C MacPhail, Garcalfra.

KAS secretary John Armour said: ‘Ballygregg­an once again proved to be an excellent venue for a fine show of 10 calves, 15 cows and heifers and 12 horses, which competed in front of a large crowd of spectators.’

Judges for the event, sponsored by ED&F Man, were Alan Kennedy in the dairy section, and Susan Woods in the horse section, and their awards were as follows.

Dairy section: Class one Ayrshire calf exhibited by primary school pupil: 1 Jack Ralston, East Drumlemble, 2 Cameron Ralston, East Drumlemble. Handler: 1 Cameron Ralston, East Drumlemble, 2 Jack Ralston, East Drumlemble. Class two Ayrshire calf exhibited by secondary pupil up to 25 years old: no entry. Best Ayrshire calf: Jack Ralston. Class seven Holstein calf exhibited by primary pupil: 1 Connor McCue, Drumalea. Handler: 1 Connor McCue, Drumalea. Class eight Holstein calf exhibited by secondary pupil up to 25 years old: 1 Kathryn Semple, Kilkeddan, 2 John Pirie, Machrihani­sh, 3 Fraser Turner, Machrihani­sh. Handler: 1 Kathryn Semple, Kilkeddan, 2 John Pirie, Machrihani­sh, 3 Jenny Semple, Kilkeddan. Best Holstein calf: Kathryn Semple.

Best Holstein calf and handler combined: Kathryn Semple. Overall champion calf: Kathryn Semple. Class three Ayrshire calving heifer: no entry. Class nine Holstein calving heifer: no entry. Class four Ayrshire calved heifer: 1 TM Ralston and Sons, East Drumlemble. Class 10 Holstein calved heifer: 1 Gavin Semple, Kilkeddan, 2 A&J Pirie, Machrihani­sh, 3 A&J Pirie, Machrihani­sh. Class five Ayrshire cow in calf: 1 TM Ralston and Sons, East Drumlemble. Class 11 Holstein cow in calf: no entry. Class six Ayrshire cow in milk: 1 TM Ralston and Sons, East Drumlemble, 2 TM Ralston and Sons, East Drumlemble. Horse section: Class 13 Colt or filly foal Clydesdale: no entry. Class 14 Clydesdale one-year-old and over: 1 D&C MacPhail, Garcalfra, 2 D&C MacPhail, Garcalfra, 3 Michelle Mayberry, Bellochant­uy. Champion Clydesdale: D&C MacPhail with Garcalfra Sweet Chloe. Class 15 Horse or pony under 14.2: 1 Keren Paterson with Dandy, 2 Jake Rowan with Alice. Class 16 Horse or pony over 14.3h: 1 Sandy Rowan, 2 Cat Freeman, 3 Enid McMurchy. Champion horse or pony: Sandy Rowan. Reserve champion: Keren Paterson.
