Oil and Pipe Agency’s apprenticeship opportunity
CAMPBELTOWN Grammar pupils’ burning desire for careers was fuelled by a visit from the Oil and Pipelines Agency.
Staff from the company attended the school to promote a new apprenticeship scheme with opportunities at the Campbeltown oil fuel depot, and a further operator post to be announced soon.
Presentation
Up to 40 pupils attended a presentation last Wednesday, with five members of HR and operations staff from the agency present.
HR director Sue Jemmet gave an overview of the history of the organisation, which currently manages, operates and maintains six naval and oil fuel depots, with four in Scotland, and 120 employees across the sites.
Depot manager David Howell, competency assurance manager Mathew Nicholson, regional operations manager John Johnson and project engineer Barry Lang all spoke highly of the company and of the apprenticeship route which they have all followed.
Pleasure
Mr Nicholson said: ‘It was a pleasure to work with pupils at Campbeltown Grammar to promote what is a new and exciting apprenticeship opportunity.’
The new scheme has been launched across the company with the Campbeltown depot offering a modern apprenticeship to train as a mechanical technician.
The training will take place over three to four years with the first 30 weeks at Inverness College UHI, and years two and three at the depot under a mentorship programme.
The post will be advertised online at https://www.apprenticeships.scot/ and in the Courier, with a closing date of January 31 2018 and a start date of September 2018.
