Slog runners cooled by a brisk breeze
ATHLETES braved wind-chill-induced sub-zero air temperatures as they blew away the Christmas cobwebs.
A compact field of two dozen runners assembled at 11am on Boxing Day. It was possibly the best ever 10k race in the Slog
in the Sand series in, at times, bright sun on reasonably firm sand, despite the bitter headwind on the return leg.
A good-sized group of spectators watched, including a lone surfer and camerawoman collecting footage for TV series Highland Midwives.
Times were quicker than last year and the order at the top was reversed with Stuart McGeachy, 37.26 knocking Garry Muir, 38.27 into second place by a good 01.01 margin, Drew Dutton, 40.59 was third.
There were two more men before the first woman, Jennifer Martin, home in 43.15 nearly seven minutes ahead of second placed Elaine Cameron, 50.00, who beat Elaine McGeachy, 50.47, by 47 seconds.
