Lomond School – A Great Place to Live and Learn
‘At all stages of the school, children and young people are highly motivated and actively involved in their learning. They are respectful, hard-working and respond very well to the overall high-quality learning experiences’. Education Scotland Located in the picturesque coastal town of Helensburgh with its safe community environment and excellent transport links, Lomond School has a long tradition of boarders from the West Highlands and Islands. Lomond offers a wide-ranging curriculum including eight National Fives as S3/S4 and the traditional five Highers in S5. Extracurricular activities include hockey, rugby, sailing, skiing and canoeing. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is another significant feature and Lomond has enjoyed great success carrying out expeditions both locally and abroad. Boarders at Lomond benefit from excellent facilities with the new Burnbrae boarding house, built in 2003, offering comfortable lounges, a gym and mostly twin en-suite study bedrooms. Lomond also allows male and female siblings the opportunity to live together in the same boarding house and families are also offered the flexibility of weekly boarding. Lomond School Principal, Johanna Urquhart said: ‘Here at Lomond we pride ourselves on taking an individual approach to the education and care of each and every pupil. Boarding provides a particularly rewarding experience thanks to our family ethos, excellent facilities and professional, dedicated staff’.
