U16s’ cracking first-half display

AFTER a series of defeats the Pupils U16s chose a home fixture on the town’s 3G to return to winning ways with a convincing victory over Dumbarton Riverside.

Last Saturday’s game was one of the few Scottish fixtures to survive snow which swept across the country last week.

There were very thin patches of sleet on areas of the pitch but it was still playable and the game got underway as planned at 12.15pm.

The Killegruer-sponsored Pupils youngsters have had a bit of a disappointing start to their season so far.

They have played well enough in some games and although not getting the results to go their way it has been felt that they have more to offer and hoped to Kyle Colville takes on two Dumbarton players. give their season a bit of a kick start with this home game.

The Pupils started off well having some good passing play but the Dumbarton team were also playing well in the early stages of the game.

Kyle Colville got the Pupils off to a great start when he broke free of the visitors’ defence and found himself through with only the keeper to beat.

He went in on a 50/50 challenge with the keeper and the ball broke nicely for Colville to finish off the run towards goal and slide the ball into the net to put the Pupils in the lead.

With the Pupils getting a lift from their goal and playing some good football, they soon found themselves two up.

Colville again collected the ball about 20 yards from goal and struck an absolutely wonderful goal which Elliot Gemmill evades a Dumbarton player.

The Pupils were well on top of the game. They found themselves up 3-0 with another wonderful goal when Elliot Gemmill hit a fantastic strike from more than 25 yards into the roof of the net for a great half-time lead.

The second half was not as good a football display from the Pupils

and at times the game became a bit scrappy.

Both teams were still putting in a great amount of effort and although there were chances at both ends of the field the only goal of the second half went to Riverside.

They scored a consolation goal in the later stages of the game to finish it off at 3-1 to the home side for what was a much-needed and deserved win.
