Snapper stuns with scenic shots

-

ONE of Kintyre’s top photographers shifted Southend SWI’s focus onto scenic snapshots at the group’s February meeting.

A good turnout of members listened to Raymond Hosie talk passionately about his hobby as he showed off his favourite photographs and videos.

Members particularly enjoyed spectacular night-time shots of the Milky Way, using photographs taken over a period of time and edited to create amazing images, and various beautiful Kintyre landscapes, including a particularly stunning Dunaverty shot.

A spokeswoman said: ‘Raymond explained how his drone works and showed some amazing footage of the Waverley paddle steamer, coming into Campbeltown, and some of the Mull of Kintyre lighthouse, from different angles, which could only be captured using this type of photography.

‘All in all, it was a fascinating and entertaining evening. Raymond’s work can be seen on his Facebook page, which is well worth a look.’

The group welcomed Dominic Sharkey from Westwards Veterinary Practice to talk at January’s animal-themed meeting.

Mr Sharkey described a day in a vet’s life in rural Kintyre and explained that he has learned a lot in the three-and-a-half years since he started here as a vet.

Asked what was the most unusual animal he had dealt with, he thought that it might be a bearded dragon. Although during a spell at the PDSA pet hospital, he was asked to look at a golden Labrador puppy that turned out to be actually a guinea pig, much to the surprise of the owner.

February competitions results were as follows. Knitted baby bootees: gold Jen Ronald, silver MJ Paterson. Rocky road: gold MJ Paterson, silver Alison Eynon, red Margaret Bateman, blue Fiona Roland, green Marion Warnock. Photograph, candid camera: gold Jen Ronald, Fiona Rowland and Jean Ives, silver MJ Paterson, Alison Eynon, Innes Ronald, blue Christine Jardine.

The group’s next meeting will be the annual bulb show on March 12.
