Guild members and alpacas are ‘hardy beasts’
THE NORTH Beachmore alpacas must have wished they had more rain-repellent lanolin in their fleeces when they crossed the road to meet Killean and Kilchenzie church guild members.
Pouring rain and howling winds met guild ladies and friends who gathered at A’Cleit to meet Zofija Sloan and some of her alpacas.
Luckily alpacas and guild members are ‘hardy beasts’ and the meeting, arranged by Maggie Young, went ahead with a few modifications.
Pat MacMillan began the meeting with a short act of worship before introducing Zofija.
A guild spokesperson said: ‘Most of us had admired the alpacas as we drove along the A83, and some had hankered after beautiful alpaca knitwear, but there is nothing to beat an enthusiastic expert to expand one’s knowledge.
‘Having listened to Zofija and learned much, we went out in small groups to have a close encounter with the alpacas before having a warming cup of tea, provided by Jill Lines and Pat Rawson.’
The ladies also browsed the ‘bring and buy’ stall, overseen by Marion McDonald and Margaret Sinclair, which made more than £50.
Pat MacMillan thanked Zofija for a fascinating talk and Pauline Simson, from Clachan, on behalf of the guests, thanked the A’Cleit ladies for their hospitality.
Following a closing prayer, the ladies departed into weather that was still far too wet, wild and windy, but warmed by the combination of an informative talk and a good blether with friends.
The next event on the guild calendar will be the World Day of Prayer service today (March 2) at 3pm in the church hall.
All will be welcome at the service, which will be followed by tea, coffee and home baking.
