Pipe band gets spirited sponsorship deal
A SPIRITED company has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with a Kintyre pipe band.
It was announced that Beinn an Tuirc Distillery will support the 3A band, which changed status from a school band to a community band recently, to allow school-leavers to be members, at
a Trail West ceilidh on Saturday night.
Niall Macalister Hall, director of Beinn an Tuirc Distillery, said: ‘We’re delighted to sponsor the band, and are sure it will have huge success in the coming years, especially now it is open to senior members.
‘We’re proud to support
it, and will be helping with additional fundraising, including a gin-tasting in Campbeltown around the end of summer.’
The Victoria Hall was packed for the Kintyre Schools Pipe Band fundraiser, which kicked off with an impressive ‘jig-tag’ performance by S4 students
Ryan, Josh, Fraser and Calum.
There was a display from each of the bands: beginners, with schools’ tutor Ian McKerral; novice juvenile, with pipe major Fiona Mitchell; and 3A, with pipe major Julie Blue.
Ms Blue said: ‘We are delighted to have
secured a sponsorship with Beinn an Tuirc Distillery for the band, which will help us greatly towards running costs.’
Before Trail West came on stage, there was a rousing mass bands performance, with all three bands performing together, before marching out
the hall to uproarious applause.
Most of the pipers and drummers had a quick change of clothes and were back in the hall by the time four-piece ceilidh band Trail West were on stage.
The rest of the evening was spent taking
part in dances including dashing white sergeant, Canadian barn dance, St Bernard’s waltz, the Boston two-step, and the ever-popular Orcadian strip the willow. There was a raffle during the interval, and the event raised £5,605.40.
