Carradale lose out to the league leaders
Carradale 2 Newshot 4
CARRADALE welcomed present league leaders Newshot to Kintyre on Saturday.
In the first five minutes Carradale had the ascendancy of play, but it was the visitors who took the lead after nine minutes.
Their striker found a bit of space outside the box. It was not the greatest shot but unfortunately for Carra-
dale’s keeper Neil McMillan, it went past him.
As the game progressed ‘Dale’s defence stood firm, with Craig Galbraith and Joey Boyd making their new partnership as the back centre halves.
After 27 minutes, Newshot gained a free kick, 30 yards from the goal on the left-hand side.
Their number seven was unmarked and his backwards header
caught everyone off-guard, and the ball went into the far lefthand corner, making it 2-0.
Within three minutes, the home side reduced the leeway, when Stuart MacBrayne made an accurate pass to David Johnstone in the middle of the park.
DJ controlled the ball the first time and sent a nice chip in to the far top corner of the net.
Three minutes from the break, in the 42nd minute, Carradale conceeded another goal when Newshot got a free kick on the lefthand side, and their number seven sent an in-swinging shot.
Everybody missed the ball due to the strong wind, and it hit the back post.
There was a melee after the McFadyens
Transport-sponsored home side tried to clear it, and Newshot’s number eight poked the ball into the net from close range.
The wind and rain lessened a bit in the second half but there were not a lot of chances for either team.
‘Dale had more possession but the visitors’ fourth goal came in the 64th minute.
It was good play from their number nine, as he found space from 15 yards out.
His shot was initially saved by the Carradale keeper and the ball ricocheted onto the crossbar.
As McMillan leapt to catch the rebound, the ball slipped from his fingers into the net.
In the 68th minute, Carradale got back into the game, when Johnny
McCormick shot a diagonal ball to the back post, which was met by Gregor Croll, who lashed the ball in from eight yards.
’Dale were dealt a blow eight minutes from the end, when Ryan Blackstock, only on the pitch for 10 minutes, received his
second yellow card, reducing the Carradale team to 10 men.
This killed any hope of ‘Dale getting back into the match.
Carradale’s next game is an away league match against South Lochaber Thistle at Kinlochleven on Saturday.
