Dookers delighted with Finn Scott’s volley

-

SOCIAL media lit up after a young Tarbert football player scored his first senior goal.

Finn Scott’s successful volley, from a poorly cleared corner, put the visitors level, at half time, with a Millbeg side which was to prove too experienced against a Dookers team without a recognised goalie and only one substitute.

Last Saturday Tarbert travelled to face Millbeg with a much-depleted squad compared to recent weeks and started with a lot of the younger boys.

Manager David Ronald opted to place himself on the bench and use the match to try out players in different positions.

The game began in blustery conditions and both sides struggled to muster any real passages of passing play.

The home side took the lead after 15 minutes when their young number 10 managed to evade three Tarbert players and squirm a deflected effort in at the near post.

Tarbert battled well though and limited the home side to few clear cut chances in the first half, the best of which was parried for a corner by the Tarbert keeper.

The reward for staying compact came toward the end of the first half as a Tarbert corner wasn’t cleared and young Scott found the mark. Dawn MacDougall was particularly pleased and wrote on social media: ‘Well done Finn! Himsel’ would be delighted!’

As expected, Millbeg came out strongly in the second half and scored another goal early on with a fine finish into the top corner after a square ball from their impres- sive number 10. Tarbert were now hanging on, and failing to keep the ball from middle to front invited continuous pressure on the defence.

A third Millbeg goal arrived on the hour mark from 25 yards which went into the postage stamp – no prizes for guessing the scorer – Millbeg’s number 10.

He was a constant thorn in the side of Tarbert and won a penalty shortly after as a clumsy tackle from Craig Johnstone allowed the chance to make it four.

The number 10 stepped up only for his spot kick to sail over the crossbar.

He wasn’t to be denied a hat-trick though as with 10 minutes remaining he skipped by a couple of challenges and slotted home his third to make the final score 4-1 for the home side.

Disappointment for Tarbert who will be hoping the return of their keeper and some other players will allow for much steelier performances in the league run in.

This week Tarbert are at home to Busby looking to continue their unbeaten home run in recent weeks.
