Charity Am-Am raises cash for Kintyre Club
TEAMS of four battled it out in the inaugural Kintyre Club charity Am-Am at Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club on Sunday.
Fifteen teams took to the course, with John Marrison, John Brown, Danny Halliday and Raymond Harvey returning with the best score, one ahead of the MacBrayne family and three ahead of the team led by Iain Houston.
Nearest the pin at the fifth was won by Stuart Campbell, with Danny Halliday coming closest at the 12th and Dean Ratcliff smashing the longest drive at the third.
A spokesperson said: ‘All the winners enjoyed prizes generously provided by our main sponsor, Glen Scotia Distillery, and we would like to sincerely thank them and their parent group, Lomond Group Distillers, for agreeing to support this endeavour.’
The real winner on the day was the Kintyre Club charity, for which £1,828 was raised, with a raffle organised by Lorna Barr and a nearest-the-pin competition helping to boost the takings.
Every penny raised will go back into supporting worthy causes in the community.
Donating
A spokesperson from the Kintyre Club board said: ‘I would like to thank the following people: Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club for donating the course for the day, and the golf house and golf course staff for their work setting up the competition; Lorna Barr for her brilliant effort in organising and coordinating a raffle which in itself raised £558; Iona Barr for her assistance on the day; John McFadyen for taking photographs which we hope to save for posterity; and every company, golf club and individual who donated a prize for the competition or for raffle.
‘Lastly, thanks to all the golfers who turned up to enter this event at relatively short notice.
‘I know a lot of you latched onto this because it was for charity and we are very grateful for your support and your benevolence on the day.
‘Having seen how much fun everybody was having, we are very keen to make this an annual event.’
