Campbeltown Creamery celebrates wins at cheese awards
Campbeltown Creamery is celebrating after bringing four prestigious cheese prizes back to Argyll. The creamery, owned by First Milk and currently up for sale, was named among the winners at the recent British Cheese Awards, held in Somerset. This year’s competition attracted more than 1,000 entries from 147 makers, with 77 judges reviewing 123 classes of cheese. Cheeses entered came from 54 counties the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland, showing just how vibrant the British cheese industry is today. Campbeltown Creamery won gold in the smoked cheddar class for its Mull of Kintyre and took silver in both the blended smoked class and the mature cheddar class, with its Mull of Kintyre smoked truckle and its Mull of Kintyre mature cheddar respectively. The Mull of Kintyre smoked cheddar also went on to win Best Scottish cheese in show against all other Scottish entries of any variety of cheese.
