Costa del Dalintober hosts community regatta
Campbeltown community groups made huge efforts and sailed into action for the town’s regatta. An active regatta sub-committee of Kintyre Seasports Project met monthly and twice in the month prior to the event. There was assistance from Jason McCallum at Keeping it Local, Krisp Print, Margaret Wallace TSI, Explore Campbeltown, Explore Kintyre and David McQuilken at Springbank. Sid Gallagher said: ‘Helen Gilchrist was a super master of ceremonies on the day. ‘Jamie McLean and Kenny Blair were power houses behind the Dalintober Beach Group organisation and contribution. ‘Jamie manually cleared half a ton of seaweed off the beach at 8am on Saturday morning. ‘The four RNLI crew members in the D-class lifeboat were on the water from 11am to 4pm despite a call-out at 4am that morning and Campbeltown Coastguard also supported the event.’ Groups involved were: Dalintober Beach Group, Campbeltown Sailing Club with Guy Nicol on rescue boat, Campbeltown Sea Cadet Unit, Campbeltown Dive Group, Campbeltown Stand Up Paddle Board Group, Kintyre Canoe Club, Grant Logan Windsurfing, Kintyre Youth Cafe, Police Scotland Youth Volunteers. Mr Gallagher added: ‘Campbeltown Sailing Club members Ian and Alison Paton and their twoyear-old daughter Florence came up from York specially for the regatta.’
