One man and his dog ran rings round the competition at Kintyre Sheepdog Trials Association’s latest competition. Duncan Robertson and Joe out-classed the opposition in last Friday’s event at Killean Estate, Tayinloan, picking up the Ian McDougall Trophy for best performance on the field. The competition, in which 55 dogs competed in fine weather was judged by John MacDougall, and prizes were presented by Tracy Ronald, the association’s secretary. Chairman Andrew Ronald Sr got a ‘real shock’ to collect the most silverware, winning the J & K Martin Confined Cup, the Wilson Dogmeal Trophy, confined to Kintyre, and the Alexander Helm Memorial Cup for best outrun, lift and fetch, confined to Kintyre. There were many spectators on the field, some from as far away as Australia, and many commented on the beautiful setting of this year’s event. A bag of dog food was presented to Alan Wilkie, the ‘unluckiest competitor’. A raffle was drawn which included many varieties of alcohol with the final prize being a shepherd’s crook donated by James McEachern.
