Sensational supergroups end successful festival
A Mull Of Kintyre Music Festival tradition reserved only for those who make it to the end, Survivors’ Night, was as successful this year as ever. A collection of supergroups from all musical backgrounds entertained the hardy crowd made up mostly of students, those with Monday off work, or those who no doubt ended up feeling a little under the weather at work on Monday. Session A83, a collection of artists who performed across the festival, kicked off the evening in style. The night continued with performances from Deep Under Gullion, a mash-up of members of Deep Joy, Under Smoke and Gullion, and the Gilchristians – one of the ever-changing line-ups of the group which formed in 2008 to play Kenny Gilchrist’s music – with 11-piece we.R.Soul, a collection of established local musicians and fresh talent, playing together for the first time. Alex and Archie McAllister, who first performed at MOKFest in 1994, took to the stage again with impressive performances on the fiddle and accordion. Slainte Davaar Allstars, which took a year out last year, came together for the sixth time to close the festival in true Campbeltonian style. A spokesperson for the festival said: ‘It was a great success with sell-out concerts and visitors from USA, Canada and across Europe attending this year. ‘The musicians at all the concerts commented on how much they enjoyed the event and the reception they got from the audiences. ‘It was great to be able to run the Saturday outdoor events again and we were delighted with the amount of people who turned out at these. ‘Finally, we would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the 26th Mull of Kintyre Music Festival such a special event. ‘We now look forward to year 27.’
