- Visit www.argyllcollege.ac.uk or call

You may think you have a good idea of what Argyll College is and what we have on offer, but did you know that in the past five years we’ve introduced more than 45 new qualifications and as a student at Argyll College UHI you’ll be able to study in a convenient location, get recognised qualifications and improve your chances of getting your career on the right track.

If you love life in Argyll but think you’re going to have to move away to get the qualifications you need – think again. Whether you want to get those Highers you missed out on at school, take your first steps into Higher Education, or retrain for a whole new career, we can help you achieve your goals.

If you want to get back into education, our brand new Access to Business, Administration and Computing is an ideal entry route to a number of HNC programmes and will allow you to get to grips with full time study, perfect for those contemplating a career change, or for students who’ve been away from education for a while. The course is available in any Argyll College centre and successful students are guaranteed an interview for HNC programmes.

Our Maritime Skills course is available in Oban, Lochgilphead and Helens- burgh and combines SQA and RYA / MCA certification so you’ll receive a comprehensive introduction to the maritime industries, as well as gaining internationally recognised certificates. The combination of shore-based studies and practical activities afloat will give you an insight into workings of the maritime industries, including commercial sea fishing, the Royal Navy, the Merchant Navy, Maritime Search and Rescue, marine leisure/sailing, aquaculture, or ports and harbour industries.

If the outdoors are not for you, our HNC Applied Sciences course will provide you with a broad base in general science, with topics, including biology, chemistry, genetics, ecology, ecosystems and microbiology. The classroom element is delivered at Argyll College UHI’s Oban centre, with practical elements carried out at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) UHI base in Dunbeg.

Tutor Sophie Hall said the SAMS UHI link means not only that students have world class science facilities at their disposal, but also that they get a valuable taste of what University life is like.

“This is the perfect course for anyone who is interested in science but not sure what particular area they might like to concentrate on in terms of further study or employment,” Sophie said.

“It gives a broad grounding in all the basic elements, plus students can choose from a range of other units depending on their individual interests.”

With the Scottish Government plans to nearly double the availability of funded childcare places by 2020, the sector is set to see a corresponding increase in demand for qualified childcare workers so there’s never been a better time to enter the profession. Argyll College UHI offers five levels of courses in Childcare, ranging from SVQs in Social Service

Children and Young People, Introduction to Childhood Studies, right up to BA (Hons) in Childhood Practice or BA (Hons) in Child and Youth Studies, and most of these are available across all college centres.

Of course, as a partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands we also give you access to more than 50 degree and post-graduate programmes, all available to study at your local learning centre.

So if you think you know what we do, you might want to think again.
