Treat a health hero to an award
It will not take a stethoscope to reveal Scotland’s healthcare heroes but they do need nominations. There is only a limited time left to nominate for this year’s Scottish Health Awards. With an August 30 deadline, organisers, including NHS Scotland and the Scottish Government, are urging people across the country to make their choices. As the NHS celebrates its 70th anniversary, there is never been a better time to pay tribute to NHS Scotland staff, support workers, volunteers and specialist teams. Every year, thousands of Scots owe their wellbeing and even their lives to the commitment and passion of healthcare professionals whose extraordinary efforts often go unrecognised. Patients, their families, work colleagues and members of the public have the chance to help them get the recognition they rightly deserve at the 17th annual awards this November. There are 17 award categories: Support worker sponsored by UNISON Scotland; innovation for an individual, a group or a team developing ways to improve the quality of healthcare; volunteers; optometrist, sponsored by Optometry Scotland; midwife, sponsored by the Royal College of Midwives; therapist; care for long-term illness; young achiever: for an individual aged 30 years or younger on November 1 2018; unsung hero, sponsored by GSK; care for mental health, sponsored by Healthcare Improvement Scotland; integrated care for older people; healthier lifestyle; leader of the year, sponsored by NHS Education for Scotland; dentist; nurse, sponsored by Unison Greater Glasgow and Clyde; doctor sponsored by BMA; top team sponsored by Unison Lothian.
