A slimmer who lost five stone and dropped five dress sizes has been crowned woman of the year. Jenna Campbell, 33, from Carradale, was nominated for the Slimming World honour by her fellow members at the group’s lunchtime slot. Jenna admitted that she was ‘in shock’ when she found out, adding: ‘It was a nice surprise.’ Despite her busy schedule, working at Kintyre Recycling and attending Woodlands Resource Centre, Jenna is one of the group’s most regular attendees. Class leader Rhona Galbraith said: ‘Jenna’s done so fantastically, she’s an inspiration to the group, she’s there every week and she takes everything on board that we say to her. ‘She’s absolutely fantastic and the whole group just admires her.’ Jenna’s mum, Christine, who prepares most of Jenna’s meals, said: ‘The family is so proud of her. She enjoys going to the classes because they have taster days, making and trying new things. ‘She has lots of friends who give her tips and encouragement.’ Sister Hayley added: ‘She puts us all to shame.’ Jenna, who had her first ever weigh-in on July 27 last year, was encouraged to join the group by Jayne Gillies, her key worker at Woodlands at the time. Jayne said: ‘I suggested it as I thought Jenna would love being part of a club and the other members are very supportive and get behind you and I knew Jenna would really thrive in that situation. ‘She has done amazingly well and could actually teach me a thing or two about self control when it comes to food. I’m so proud of her and she absolutely deserves her title of woman of the year, she looks amazing.’ Jenna says she will keep going to the lunchtime class, which welcomes between 50 and 60 members each week. Christine shares weekly updates on Jenna’s progress on her Facebook page and the ‘likes’ and comments give Jenna a lot of encouragement. The woman of the year title was bestowed on two others, Lucy West and Kelly Brown, one from each of the Campbeltown branch’s evening classes, which receive between 50 and 75 members. Classes, all led by Rhona, meet every Tuesday at 1pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm in the Masonic Recreational Lodge, St John Street.
