Glendaruel Caravan and Camping Park

Campbeltown Courier - - FEATURE -

The second generation of the Craig family is now welcoming the children and grandchildren of their first customers to Glendaruel Caravan and Camping Park. Annie’s parents Quin and Anne began the family business in 1976 in the grounds of Glendaruel House, one of the lost mansions of Argyll. The house’s legacy is a 22-acre landscape full of beautiful mature trees and wildlife, forming the back drop to the park which caters for 35 owner occupied Caravan Holiday Homes, as well as visiting caravans, motor homes and campers. The park layout keeps cars away from living areas, giving parents the confidence to let children play safely. ‘People have always liked the ambiance of the place it has a very peaceful atmosphere,’ said Annie. Glendaruel is right in the heart of the Cowal Peninsula amidst the beautiful landscapes and seascapes of Argyll’s ‘secret coast’ and in these tranquil surroundings it is hard to believe you are only two hours from Glasgow and an even shorter journey from the Inverclyde area. ‘Once people find this area you can guarantee they come back,’ said Annie. The park has a new hub building, including a laundry and other facilities and unique wooden bothies, designed by Annie in conjunction with RA Scott Passive House Design and Construction, which are a big hit with outdoor enthusiasts and cyclists all drawn by the Cowal Way, Cowal Loop Cycle Route and the Five Ferries Challenge. The park also has a wifi hotspot. And being at the centre of the peninsula, Glendaruel is perfectly placed for ferries to Bute and Tarbert to explore the Kintyre Peninsula, Benmore Botanic Garden, an outing to Dunoon or further afield to Inveraray. The Craig family welcomes people to come and try before they buy one of their holiday homes for hire, to experience the magic of Glendaruel first hand.

“We had visited Glendaruel Caravan Park many times and stayed with friends who had a caravan holiday home on the park. We ended up buying our own and have continued to enjoy the experience – always a pleasant drive from Glasgow and alway appreciated the west highland scenery when we arrived on site. Cattle grazing and great views of the hills, this is a quiet and well managed park” – K Gibson

“We were looking for a park with peace and quiet, we have found lots of that here” – E Simpson
