Bursary benefits

-

The West Kintyre Community Fund has granted bursaries to help finance the education and development of seven residents. Four of the monetary awards have been made to undergraduate university students, two to students on further education college courses and one will help someone carrying out an apprenticeship. A business start-up grant has also been awarded with an application for another expected soon. The fund was set up by the area’s community council to dispense money given to it by RES, the developer of Freasdail wind farm, which set up its own Local Electricity Discount Scheme, awarding money to all eligible households within approximately a 5km radius of the site. As the turbines sit in the jurisdiction of both West Kintyre and Tarbert and Skipness, the remainder of the community benefit funds has been split equally between the two areas’ community councils. More information can be obtained from West Kintyre Community Council’s convener, Margaret Pratt by emailing margaretpratt@ btinternet.com.
