Trio’s head shave of the century
It was a case of hair today gone tomorrow for three generations of a Campbeltown family. Lewis Graham, 10, joined his dad Robert Graham, 33 and grandad also Robert Graham, 61, in the Macmillan Cancer Support fundraiser at the Kinloch Bar in Saddell Street. Mr Graham snr said that it was decided to bill the event last Saturday as Head Shave of the Century because their combined ages added up to 104. In addition coffees, home baking and a guess how many five pences there were in a bottle added to the total, of at least £450, collected by staff, customers and friends, some of whom travelled from London. One London visitor found flying on Loganair’s Twin Otter from Glasgow an exciting experience but added: ‘We could have got to Lanzarote in the time it took to get here from Luton.’ Photographs were taken of the trio before the shave and tension mounted when Campbeltown barber Gary Anderson, from Hall Street’s Headquarters, was delayed. Mr Anderson arrived only for former mobile hairdresser Julie Rutherford to find young Lewis had vanished. He reappeared and in no time Mr Anderson had Mr Graham snr down to a bare scalp and calls were being made for his eyebrows to be shaved. It was decided to leave Lewis with a stubble but as the Courier reporter left Kelsey Graham was shaving the last hair from his dad Robert’s head.
