Ladies learn life-saving skills

-

The ladies of Largieside SWI picked up some potentially life-saving skills at their first meeting of the year. Members were welcomed to Tayinloan Village Hall by Jessie Main, who introduced Pat Rawson to demonstrate how to use a defibrillator, apparatus which administers a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. Pat, who appeared in place of the scheduled guest speaker who was unable to attend, brought one of the devices with her to the event. With help from Patricia Johnstone and Enid Williams, members were shown how to use it. Patricia also showed other resuscitation techniques and how to make a patient comfortable until medical help arrives. When looking at the defibrillator outside the hall at the start of the evening, members were concerned to learn that a code had to be entered to gain access to the machine, installed by West Kintyre Community Council for use by the public. A spokesperson said: ‘The code was not predominantly obvious so we urge everyone to take time and find out where to locate the code on their local unit, in case it is ever required.’ Tea hostesses on the night were Enid Williams and Denise McKeown. The evening was drawn to a close with a vote of thanks given by Linda Hutchinson. Competitions for the evening were a pencil drawing of a flower and three queen cakes. Results: Pencil drawing of a flower: Adrienne Bradley 5 pts, Denise McKeown 4 pts, Patricia Johnstone 3 pts, Amanda White 2 pts, Cath Lowe 1 pt. Three queen cakes: Denise McKeown 5 pts, Helen Steel 4 pts, Amanda White 2 pts.
