End-of-session celebration at Rhunahaorine
It was a special end-of-session celebration for the one P7 pupil and four nursery children who are leaving Rhunahaorine Primary School.
A video of all that P7 Alyssa Storey has brought to the school, made by fellow pupil Louise Hurd, was projected on to the wall of Tayinloan Village Hall during the event, while the five pre-five children, who will attend various primary schools after the summer break, donned make-shift graduation gowns and caps and said good-bye to nursery.
The celebration doubled up as a prize-giving ceremony for all the children’s achievements across the school year.
There were musical treats throughout the event to entertain the audience of proud family and friends.
The pre-five children kicked off the entertainment with a series of action songs, during which they sang, together and separately, strummed ukuleles and banged drums, under the leadership of music teacher Mandy Beveridge.
P6 pupil Lewis O’Hanlon showed off his chanter skills during a performance of Highland Laddie, and all the school’s students joined together to perform a tune using a variety of instruments, and to sing When a Knight Won His Spurs.
The children were congratulated for their success in the ‘£1 challenge’ where they are given £1 and tasked with making more money.
Through selling baking and putty models, the children made £31.40 which was donated to Tayinloan’s
play park fund. The school’s chaplain, Marilyn Shedden, unable to choose just one child to present with a chaplain’s award, presented each, including those from the nursery, with a book titled Children of God by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
After the ceremony, refreshments were served before school was dismissed for the summer break.
