Crowds flock to Islay Agricultural Show
A councillor has praised the work of those who mucked in to make this year’s Islay Agricultural Show a success.
Kintyre and the Islands councillor Alastair Redman, who lives on Islay, said: ‘I had a great time at this year’s show. It was fantastic to speak to so many of my constituents and it was also wonderful to see many business stalls promoting Islay’s dynamic and booming economy.’
The 173rd annual show, organised by the Islay, Jura and Colonsay Agricultural Association, was held last Thursday, August 8, at Bridgend.
The aim of the association, which was founded in 1838, is to ‘curate the advancement of agriculture generally and in particular within the islands of Islay, Jura and Colonsay’ by hosting shows - including Islay Agricultural Show demonstrations and lectures, among other things’.
Councillor Redman added: ‘The show was well attended with lots of families, both local and visiting, having a fun day out and luckily the sun was shining most of the day.
‘A huge thanks to all the organisers and everyone else who contributed to the event.’
A show spokesperson said: ‘We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who makes it all happen...our competitors, committee, judges, stewards, volunteers, sponsors and stance holders.
‘Special thanks to everyone who came out to clear the show field on Friday. High winds during the night caused excessive damage to tents and equipment so it wasn’t an easy job in the wind and rain.
‘Plans for 2020 will start very soon with our annual greeting meeting where any constructive feedback is most welcome. Date to be arranged.’
