It was all hands on deck to make sure the second annual Campbeltown Community Regatta went off without a hitch.

More than 200 people attended the event, which offered dinghy sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, trips on yachts, scuba diving and beach activities, including numerous games and a sand castle competition.

Despite weather worries in the week leading up to the regatta, there was bright sunshine for much of the day, a relief for those who remained on dry land, although more people than ever before took the opportunity to try the different water sports on offer.

The event is organised by groups, including the Kintyre Seasports Project, Dalintober Beach Group and Campbeltown Sailing Club, with activities taking place at Dalintober Beach, the sailing club, Aqualibrium and Campbeltown Marina.

Greig Walker, commodore of Campbeltown Sailing Club, told the Courier: ‘It was great to see many young sailors who took part in our lessons over the summer coming along and taking their friends out on the boats.

‘We had an excellent group of volunteers helping not only with the activities but also with registration, catering and handing out equipment. It was fantastic to see the community coming together to provide such a great event for Campbeltown.’

Jamie McLean added: ‘On behalf of Dalintober Beach Group, I would like to thank the following: the emergency services which were present on the day - the coastguard, RNLI, young firefighters and Police Scotland Youth Volunteers; Tesco and the Co-op for their donations; compère Helen Gilchrist, who did a fantastic job as usual; everyone who took part; and all those involved in organising the day – it was a great success.’
