Mach Dunes Autumn Pairs and members’ evening

-

The annual Autumn Pairs golf tournament was played in testing conditions at Machrihanish Dunes on Saturday with Alan Robertson and Ryan McConnachie emerging victorious despite playing in the worst of the conditions.

Alan and Ryan’s score of 45 points was three better than was amassed by the pairing of Dean Ratcliff and Bailey Freeman, who won the gents’ section.

Alan O’Neill and Eric Dunlea finished second in the gents’ section with 40 points, narrowly edging out John Kean and Jordan Kean, who returned 39 points to scoop third prize.

In the mixed section, Steven and Lindsay Garrett put together a fine card of 38 points, which was too good for second place finishers John Ramsay and Lindsay Ramsay, who scored 35, and Duncan Munro and Anne Storm, who scored 33.

Duncan Munro boosted his prize haul by winning the prize for nearest the pin at the sixth, while Trevor Wignall came closest at the fifth.

Machrihanish Dunes would like to thank its sponsor for this event, HD fire and security, for their support. It also like to thanked Lorna, Peter and Jock for looking after everybody on the day, and the greenkeepers who helped to set up the course.

After everybody had been given the opportunity to go home and change out of their wet golf clothes, it was time to reconvene at the Ugadale Hotel for the annual members’ evening.

This event was a sell-out for the first time, and it started with the presentation of the golf awards before the assembled throng got tucked into a buffet and grill that had been prepared by chef Gordon McNeill and his team.

The ensuing quiz was won by Clochkeil, before Matthew Mcallister opened up with the first of a brilliantly executed set of covers that was enjoyed by everyone at a very busy bar.

The only people not concentrating fully on Matt’s music were those focussed on the annual darts tournament which saw Steven Nicholl narrowly defeating Gus Laurenson in the final.

Anne Mitchell won the ladies’ darts, beating the odds-on favourite Margaret McMillan in the final.
