Livestock sells well at Islay sale
At United Auctions’ sale on Islay on October 17, 1,002 head of all classes of sheep were sold.
Lambs averaged £50 (+£2.06) per head and 138.42p/kg (n/c).
An excellent entry of Blackface lambs sold to a keen ringside of buyers. All other classes sold well and above sellers’ expectations.

The same day, 278 calves were sold. 137 bullock calves averaged £675.95 (-£15.61) to £1010 for a 398kg Limousin cross from Ardnave Farm and averaged 229.58p/kg (+1p) to 304p/kg for two 296kg Limousin crosses from Ardnave. 141 heifer calves averaged £595.32 (+£14.94) to £900 for a 340kg Limousin cross from Ardnave and averaged 209.67p/kg (n/c) to 287p/kg for a 272kg Limousin cross also from Ardnave Farm. A good following of mainland buyers ensured all stock sold at levels above sellers’ expectations. The entry of calves was mainly spring-born and they were of superior quality.
