Graham’s pedal power raises cash for Cooper

- by Hannah O’Hanlon editor@campbeltowncourier.co.uk

‘Selfless’ seven-year-old Graham Brown used pedal power to raise £2,000 for the fundraiser to buy his cousin, Cooper Scally, a new stateof-the-art wheelchair and trike.

Graham recently completed a 12-mile sponsored cycle from Campbeltown’s ferry terminal to Machrihanish and back alongside his father, also Graham.

Little Graham started to struggle at Drumlemble on the way back in as his legs began to ache but he was determined to carry on after stopping to enjoy a flask of tea with his dad.

He arrived back at the ferry terminal after just two and a half hours to a crowd of close friends and family cheering him on with homemade banners.

Money from sponsor sheets is still being handed in but so far Graham has raised around £2,000.

There is only one month between Graham and Cooper, who has cerebral palsy and is unable to walk, talk or eat independently. Cooper’s parents, Zoey Booth and Greg Scally, set up a fundraising page to enable them to purchase the bespoke equipment, estimated to cost £10,000 in total, which will give Cooper the ability to self-propel.

‘When Graham found out we were raising money, he decided on his own that he wanted to do something to help,’ said Zoey.

Zoey continued: ‘We’d just like to thank Graham’s mum Janna for handing out sponsorship forms and collecting the money, his dad Graham for supporting him to do the sponsored cycle and to all the local people who donated and businesses that have taken in sponsor forms.

‘We’d also like to thank Wee Toon Trends for donating a personalised T-shirt for Graham to wear during his cycle. The biggest thank you of all, of course, goes to our wonderful nephew Graham for such a selfless act – cousins really do make the best friends and Cooper is very lucky to have you.’
