Malnutrition Awareness Week provides food for thought
Argyll and Bute TSI 1000 Voices project chose to support UK Malnutrition Awareness Week which took place from October 14 to 20.
Michele Prout from Argyll and Bute TSI held a special event for the older members of the community on Thursday October 17 at Campbeltown Picture House.
The event included a fantastic interactive presentation by Gillian Rennie from the NHS on weight management, short videos, a mini quiz and even a free Body Boosting Bingo chair exercise class.
Goodie bag
The attendees were even given a goodie bag full of leaflets on staying healthy, freebies from NHS Oral Health, Eat Well Age Well and Age Scotland, and even free foods.
Michele said: ‘As 1000 Voices project works with people aged 65 and over, it is important to raise awareness of nutrition and hydration in later life.
‘I am very thankful to everyone who supported the event and made it possible. Tesco kindly provided us with a gift voucher so we were able to produce mini vegetable bags for soup, and Wiltshire Farm Foods very generously gave us free meals and desserts from their range to hand out.’
1000 Voices aids to help reduce social isolation and loneliness in individuals aged 65 and over, offering various monthly events and activities which include Silver Steppers tea dances; Meet and Eat Lunch Club; Body Boosting Bingo chair exercises to aid strength and balance; Meet and Greet – free tours of local establishments, such as the RNLI station, the police station, and Campbeltown Airport; Cinemates – monthly cinema trips; Landrail Firearms indoor shooting; Aquabuddies swimming group; and very recently Friends Like Us, telephone-befriending.
