A special bench dedicated to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country will form part of Campbeltown’s Remembrance commemorations this weekend.

The bench, on which the words ‘Lest we forget’ are written, will be placed at the Commonwealth War Graves in Kilkerran Cemetery tomorrow (Saturday, November 9) at 10.30am.

The Campbeltown branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland will have a short service of Remembrance at the Cross of Sacrifice before placing poppy crosses at the war graves on the level below, which members of the public are invited to attend.

The branch would like to thank South Kintyre’s three councillors for funding the bench through the Campbeltown Common

Good Fund.

On Sunday November 10, people are expected to gather at Campbeltown War Memorial on Kinloch Green between 10.30am and 10.45am for the annual Remembrance Day service. Marching contingents are asked to be outside the Victoria Hall at 10.15am to be formed up by the parade commander Alister Kenny.

Those wishing to lay wreaths at the war memorial are requested to be at the memorial at 10.15am for a briefing.

If there are inclement weather conditions the

service will be held in the Victoria Hall.

Representing Her Majesty The Queen, Patrick Stewart, the Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute, will lay a wreath at the memorial on Remembrance Sunday, his last before retiring next summer.

Apart from the presence of councillors and other representatives of the community, Mr Stewart hopes to be joined by Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell, cabinet secretary for government business and constitutional relations, and Lieutenant Jim Gallagher RN, representing the Royal Navy and his ship HMS Argyll.

?? ?? The commemorative bench will be placed at the Commonwealth War Graves in Kilkerran Cemetery.
