First Tuesday words and music
On the first Tuesday in November, Campbeltown Library was full of music, laughter and light, despite the cold, dark night outside.
More than 30 people attended a performance of readings by members of Kintyre Writers’ Circle and music from talented young band The Endorphins with Ruairidh Wallace on guitar and vocals, Sonny Scott, lead guitar, Ben Davies, bass guitar, and Tristan Holmes on drums.
On this occasion, words were provided by Elizabeth McTaggart, who covered topics from libraries to magic and marriage proposals.
An amusing description of a music performance followed by explosions was provided by Norman Weir, a timely piece given the date – November 5.
Each of the readings was interspersed by music and song, all well received by an appreciative audience.
This was one in a series of performances proposed by the songwriters and the Writers’ Circle.
It is planned to continue this First Tuesday series of musical and literary evenings over the winter and spring. Each month will feature a different reader, songwriter or band.
The aim is to keep the spotlight on the abundance of songwriting and literary talent in Kintyre, to increase the footfall of the library on its late-night opening and to entertain people of all ages.
The first Tuesday of every month at 7pm has been set aside for the 45-minute performance.
This is a free event, with donations going to the musicians and the library.
The next meeting will be on December 3.
Watch out for posters on Facebook, websites and around the town.
