Vote for lovely festive lunch

-

The Campbeltown Community Bureau Christmas lunch clashed with the General Election but that didn’t stop anyone from voting, writes Hannah O’Hanlon.

The bureau had decided to bring together people and groups from across Campbeltown to share a Christmas meal and, as it was election day, the minibus stopped first at the Victoria Hall, so that votes could be cast.

It turned out, however, that 15 of the 19 participants had voted already through their postal votes and were well ahead of the game.

The lunch party comprised members from the Monday Social Club, U3A, Friendly Yarns, Seniors’ Forum and Community Bureau, and they all simply had a lovely meal and a laugh.

Glenn Appleton, CEO of the Community Bureau, explained: ‘During our Corryvreckan trip, Cathie Duncan and I thought it might be nice to meet up again and include some of the people who couldn’t make it. This was a lovely day with lovely people.’

Ian McVicar, the bureau’s community development officer, added: ‘Without the likes of Rose, Lesley, Glenn, Ken or Cathie, so many groups and activities just wouldn’t have ever existed in Campbeltown. So it is a pleasure to have these people as friends and colleagues.’

And Sarah Thompson, who volunteers for both the bureau and Friendly Yarns, added: ‘I’m going abroad for Christmas and will miss Christmas day dinner and I’m so glad I had my meal today – I think we will have to do this again in January!’

The Community Bureau is a charity in Campbeltown that runs the community shop and looks to help people improve the quality of their lives. It exists simply to identify gaps in provision and make the world a bit nicer.

?? ?? Clockwise from top left: everyone agreed it was a lovely lunch; the lunch offered members of different groups a chance to catch up; Sarah Thompson, with Ken and Teresa; all aboard the mini bus for lunch.
