A little bird shares Christmas story
Rhunahaorine Primary School’s pupils demonstrated their skills not only as singers and actors but also as puppeteers at their Christmas concert.
Last week’s production of A Little Bird Told Me featured several sock puppet birds including a robin, operated by concealed puppeteer Louise, who excitedly shared the nativity story.
As the robin tweeted the tale, it was acted out by fellow pupils and members of the school’s pre-fives unit on Tayinloan Village Hall’s stage.
The cast was as follows. Puppeteers – Robin: Louise; Birds: Mark and Cayden. Actors: Star and Mary: Charlotte. Joseph: Mark. Angel: Craig. Camels: Kieran, Stuart, Craig and Austin. Wise men: Fabian, Lewis and Logan. Sheep: Camille, Lochlen and Arianna. Narrators: Lewis and Logan.
The young thespians dealt exceptionally well with the bright lights and crowded audience of family, friends and members of the community.
Transporting
The stage was dressed beautifully and burning incense sticks added to the atmosphere, transporting the audience back to Bethlehem at the time of Jesus’s birth.
The production’s programme thanked Mandy Beveridge for adapting and directing the play, Jeanne Loganbill for creating the costumes, and two of Mandy’s daughters for their assistance with some of the ICT aspects of the show.
In welcoming people to the show, the school’s acting head teacher,
Catriona Brown, said: ‘It’s great to see such support. The children have learned so much, not just about the Christmas story but also how to read music and ICT skills when making the programmes.’
Afterward the play, pupils sold some of the crafty Christmas creations they have made in school, as parents served tea, coffee and baking.
