Rumskee play Celtic Connections!

-

Rumskee, a young traditional folk group from Argyll, continue to make a name for themselves and their latest appearance was at Celtic Connections on Saturday.

Celtic Connections is the UK’s leading celebration of Celtic music, and is renowned for its strong spirit of collaboration, bringing together one-off line-ups for very special onenight-only collaborative shows.

Rumskee took part in the festival’s battle of the folk bands at the Drygate Brewery on Saturday.

Influenced by their roots in Scottish traditional music, the band is described as ‘mad frenetic energy from the west coast of Scotland’, with members ranging in age from 18 to 22 with a line-up of fiddle, pipes/ whistles, keys, vocals/guitar and bass.

Formed in 2018 after meeting through the

Argyll Ceilidh Trail, they aim to incorporate jazz and blues influences into a sound embedded in their west coast trad roots. They play a mixture of their own compositions and arrangements of traditional tunes.

Honoured

The band, which features Campbeltown’s Andrew McAllister, who plays bass, as well as members from Dunoon and Oban, said they had ‘an absolute blast’ and were honoured to be involved in such a huge range of talent and incredible bands.

The other band members are Kate McPherson, Holli Scott, Emma Baird and Ruaridh Litster-Campbell.

The future looks bright for Rumskee, who released an EP last year and say they would love to expand their recorded material and release an album.
