Young Pupils succumb to the Drum in final minutes
The Pupils U15s welcomed Drumchapel Utd to Campbeltown on Sunday and despite the final scoreline, it turned out to be a close fixture.
Leading 1-0 through a left-footed strike from Calum Ellis in the 12th minute in an end-to-end first half, the Ardshiel Hotelsponsored side could have gone 2-0 up only for a superb save by the Drum keeper at the feet of Michael Campbell a few minutes later.
They were made to pay the penalty when the visitors were allowed a free header from a corner to equalise.
Further chances fell to both sides with Kyle Paterson unlucky on two occasions with headers.
Forced in to another change at half-time after Campbell retired with a knee injury in the 18th minute and Arkell retiring, the Kintyre youngsters lost their way in the second half as the West Dunbartonshire side enjoyed the lion’s share of play.
The young Pupils did well to fight off attack after attack but succumbed to the pressure in the final 15 as Drumchapel scored three goals to win 4-1.
A Pupils spokesperson said: ‘It has been a tough start to 2020 for the Pupils but the signs are there that they are not far away from a result.
‘The boys can take a lot of positives from Sunday’s match.
‘Thanks once again to all at Drumchapel Utd for making the trip to Kintyre in what turned out to be a fine afternoon. We look forward to our return fixture later in the season.
‘Thanks to Campbeltown Loyal Rangers Supporters Club for sponsoring Sunday’s ball too – the support is really appreciated.’
The 2005s have no game this Sunday due to a free week but are back in action on Sunday February 16 when they will play Ashfield at home.
