Gigha Parish Church

Presentation to Rev Don Macfarlane, M A.

A unique event in the history of the Parish Church of Gigha took place on the evening of the 17th inst., in the schoolroom, when a public meeting was held, the occasion being the presentation of a testimonial to the respected and beloved minister of the parish, to whose efficient ministrations the people owe so much. The Rev A Anderson, Clachan, presided over a large and enthusiastic audience.

Mr Isaac Love, treasurer, said that some time ago a meeting was held to consider a wide-spread feeling in the congregation that something should be done in the way of giving the members and adherents an opportunity of showing their sincere regard and high appreciation of Mr and Miss Macfarlane’s work among the people. As a result, a scheme was set on foot which met with a hearty and liberal response from every home in the island.

Mr John Wotherspoon, elder, in making the presentation to the Rev Mr Macfarlane, said he thanked all for the great honour that had been conferred on him to present Mr Macfarlane a token of appreciation of his faithful services since he came to Gigha. He believed that the people of Gigha did the best day’s work they ever did when they elected Mr Macfarlane to be their minister. It was over 12 years since that important occasion, and the people of Gigha had no reason to regret their choice, because they an ideal parish minister.
