MOKRUN called off but see you in 2021

Cancellation rather than postponement is the best option, says committee

-

Said to be the nation’s friendliest running event, the Mull of Kintyre Run (MOKRUN) will not take place in 2020.

The event is not only the jewel in the crown of Kintyre running but also a valuable source of revenue to the area’s economy.

So it was with sadness, but in accordance with advice from Scottish Athletics, that the MOKRUN committee has announced the news.

The MOKRUN 10K and half-marathon running festival weekend, scheduled for May 24 and 25, are now cancelled.

Enforced break

The committee considered postponing the event until later in the year, but decided that, with so many larger and more centrally-based events choosing that option, it would be better to accept the enforced break and come back fresher and stronger for next year’s event.

There is also much uncertainty over when restrictions will be lifted to consider, the committee felt.

So make a date for May 29 and 30, 2021.

All of the 2020 entrants will receive an email in which they will be given the option to defer their place to the following year, ensuring entry into the 2021 event at this year’s price.

Alternatively, they can opt to receive a refund of their £28 race entry fee, or to donate that fee to supporting the future of the event.

The entry places that become available will be offered for sale in January 2021. Entry fees for the junior races and ceilidh ticket holders will automatically be refunded. Further information is available on the website www. mokrun.com

A spokesperson said: ‘The committee members would like to send their heartfelt apologies and thanks to all of the local companies, individuals and volunteers who have helped each year so faithfully, to make this one of the best events in Scotland.

‘We hope that you all make it safely through this difficult and worrying time. If we had booked you for 2020 and you are able to offer your services again next year, please put the new date of May 29 and 30, 2021, in your diary and we look forward to working with you again then.’
