Quarantine quiz donations beGIN to flood in

-

What better way to spend a Friday night in lockdown than taking part in a quiz run by Campbeltown's answer to Dame Edna Everage?

That is how more than 800 people spent last Friday night, as they enjoyed a ‘swally' with Helen Gilchrist, whose quarantine quizzes continue to be a hit with people around the world.

Helen donned a purple wig and stylised cat eye glasses as she went live on Facebook to deliver the third instalment of her lockdown quizzes. Each week she sports a different look. Helen, renowned for her fundraising quizzes, decided to take the fun online so people could join in from the comfort of their own homes, in the hope it would relieve some of the boredom experienced during lockdown.

Helen, whose tipple of choice as she entertains is a gin and tonic, has been visited several times by a ‘gin fairy' who has spirited bottles of the drink onto her doorstep as a thank you for her efforts.

So many people also said they'd like to donate money as they would if they attended a regular quiz - that Helen set up an online fundraising page. Within a couple of weeks, donations had come within £100 of the £8,000 target.

Helen told the Courier: ‘It's just amazing how the quiz has taken off. Folk are connecting from all over the globe.'

Helen plans to donate a portion to Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance. ‘It is such a lifeline to folk who get really sick here,' she said. ‘There will still be plenty left for community organisations. Thank you to everyone who has donated. I'm also loving the doorstep presents of gin!'

To take part in tonight's quiz, join Helen's Facebook group, The Jolly Monday Show, where you will also find the link to the fundraising page.
