Thought for the Week

- With Marilyn Shedden

We are twice blessed in West Kintyre and Gigha.

We have a new minister to walk the journey of faith with us. It is certainly not the journey Scott, or we, had anticipated. However, we are walking in the light of God in new ways together as we enjoy Scott’s excellent online services.

Our other blessing was to have the privilege of a locum ministry prior to this. Clive and Mary were to be with us for four months just before Scott’s arrival and they became our good friends in that short time.

Clive’s Bible studies were enlightening, fascinating and illuminating and with his easy gentle style we were awakened to so many wonderful revelations in scripture.

We still keep in touch with Clive and Mary and still benefit from their wisdom.

Recently Clive sent me his notes on an Easter course he had prepared for Fijian students.

The following incident really intrigued me: ‘Daniel Migliore was Professor of Theology in Princeton.

‘In an epilogue he created an imaginary dinner table to which he invited several notable theologians.

‘He asked them to bring to the table only one biblical text which they would use to illustrate how they understood the resurrection. Migliore is of the opinion the text we choose is the ‘key’ to our whole theology, the way in which we understand the Christian faith.’

The question to follow is this: ‘What text would you select and why?’

We do not need to be a theologian to answer this question, so I ask you to consider what Bible story or text about Jesus’ resurrection is at the heart of your faith?
