Caledonian Marts Limited sold 162 cattle comprising 109 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 53 OTM cattle at its sale on Thursday May 14. Prime heifers sold to 235 ppkg for a British Blue X from Dalchirla Farms, Muthill, Crieff, purchased by H A Black, Butcher, Stirling, and to £1408 for the same beast. Prime bullocks sold to 225 ppkg for a Limousin from W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn, purchased by T Johnston, Butcher, Falkirk and to £1468 for an Aberdeen Angus from J & J Brown, Loanrigg, Slamannan. Bulls (under 30 months) sold to 215ppkg for a Limousin from W Dick & Sons, Mains of Throsk, Throsk, and to £1361 from J Caldwell, Moorfield, Kilmarnock. Other leading prices: Bullocks per head: £1434 Penston and Mains of Cultmalundie; £1411 Penston; £1400 LQearielaw; £1394 Riggs; £1394 and £1385 Westwoodlane; £1380 Mains of Cultmalundie and Gillandersland. With a large show of feeding OTMs forward they averaged 126ppkg, selling to 153 ppkg for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, and to £1410 for a Limousin from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Thosk, Throsk. Dairy cows averaged 106ppkg selling to 117ppkg from W & M Wylie, Broompark, Torphichen, and to £980 from the same home.
