Thought for the Week

During lockdown I think we all gained a few extra indulgences to help us though the hard times.

One of mine was Liquorice Allsorts. These sweet multicoloured goodies with such variety just seemed to add a little colour to life.

As the name suggests they come in all shapes and sizes and flavours and we all like to find our favourite somewhere at the bottom of the bag.

I found worship a wee bit like this too. Churches are closed but there is great variety of services waiting out there online.

There is a Liquorice Allsorts abundance of services available to suit everyone.

Some services are like the nice rounded coconut ones, full of comfort and made to make us feel less worried.

There are the ones which have many colours for those who thrive on variety. Then there are the plain black ones for those who like traditional worship.

There are the black ones with white in the middle for those who are traditional but who don’t mind a wee bit of something new occasionally.

There are pink ones and brown ones, white ones and yellow ones, something to cater for every taste.

Liquorice Allsorts worship might just be the way forward for the church.

While we ponder about whether to open our buildings under such strict conditions, which many of us feel would detract from worship, maybe we need to find new ways to touch the spiritual needs of everyone.

Maybe we need a Liquorice Allsorts approach.

I know that the services which really inspire and encourage me, may not be the same ones that do so for my neighbour.

But they might not like the liquorice sweeties that I like either.
