Sweet reward for lockdown poets

-

Shopper-Aide has delivered sweet prizes to the young winners of its poetry competition.

Run throughout lockdown, the challenge aimed to provide budding writers with something to keep them busy while stuck at home.

Beautifully packaged goodies from Molly’s Sweets Treats at the Tin Roof Diner were delivered to the six children who were crowned winners – Eve Hall, Elana Lewis, Austin O’Hanlon, Maisey Graham, Ava Fulton and Sean McArthur – while a hamper from Fresh

Connection was presented to Margaret Campbell from Carradale, the competition’s adult winner.

A Shopper-Aide spokesperson said: ‘We thank all the children and adults who took the time to write some superb entries and we hope they were tuned into Argyll FM as John Armour recited them on his show. Thanks also to primary schools for encouraging children to take part.’

The competition was just one of a range of things ShopperAide has organised to help clients remain engaged while the social groups which many attend were postponed.

Activity boxes have been sent out to workers and volunteers to distribute on Gigha and in East and West Kintyre, as well as items being offered around Campbeltown.

The boxes contain a range of items including colouring books, puzzle books, photograph albums, scrap books, craft kits, jigsaws, games, knitting sets and books.

Afternoon teas where quiz sheets and goodie bags were delivered to clients in their own homes have been popular and have provided a chance to enjoy being part of something bigger. Socialising may be on hold but the feeling of being involved in something social can continue.

Shopper-Aide is also planning to create a ‘lockdown masterpiece’ in the form of a blanket made using knitted squares which people have donated. As restrictions ease, Shopper-Aide says it will continue to support its clients who remain anxious and isolated in these uncertain times.

‘Many thanks to our numerous funders for supporting our work during this time,’ the spokesperson added.
