Medals mark charity challenge success
Everyone who completed David Brown’s 5K challenge at the end of July in aid of the Mairi Semple Cancer Fund has been presented with a medal.
The Campbeltown dad has challenged himself to run or walk 5k, or complete 25 minutes of exercise every day of 2020, to stay fit and raise money for a different charity every month.
David chose the Mairi Semple Fund for July and to mark his achievements charity organisers ran a competition to design a medal.
The overall winner of the ‘Design a Medal for David’ competition was Ailie Renton who, at the prizegiving donated £85 from a toy sale to the fund. The runners-up were Abi Eilson from Aberdeen, who is staying with her grandparents in the area, and Cara and Lucy Mcfadzean from Campbeltown. Among those taking part in July were Mairi Semple Cancer Fund Committee members took part, with the youngest participant Finlay Blair, age 7, who cycled or ran every day. Fund treasurer Margaret Sinclair ran at least 5k every day. David and his son Ross received their medals from competition winner Ailie Renton. David and Ross ran or spin biked 5k every day of July.
Competition organiser Fiona Macalister said: ‘It has been great to see families, mothers and babies in prams, runners and all ages take part in this challenge. It has reached Glasgow, Aberdeen and Cumbernauld that we know of.
‘When you see folk writing on social media that it has been a great incentive to get them and their young families out, that makes it all worthwhile.’
This month’s challenge is for the food bank.
